System Description

Climate Chamber, Type KK 12,000/-40/95

Construction of the Test Chamber

The test chamber is a monoblock construction.
It consists of the actual test space with the recirculation mixing chamber and the necessary heat exchanger, as well as the unit frame, which is located behind the test space and is an integral part of the system. Control and regulation are located on the front side of the unit frame.

Test Space

The test space is made of stainless V2A steel and is welded to be steam-tight. It forms a stable unit with the housing and the polyurethane rigid foam insulation in between.
The test space is equipped with a double-leaf door. A large observation window with a multi-pane set of tempered, temperature-resistant glass provides a good view into the interior of the test space. A condensate drain is integrated into the floor of the test space.

Air Circulation

Continuous air circulation in the test space is ensured by radial fans, whose motors are located outside the insulation. The air is extracted from the test space, directed over the heated or cooled surfaces of the heat exchangers in the recirculation mixing chamber, and then returned to the test space.
The airflow pattern ensures uniform exposure of the test space with tempered air, thus providing high spatial temperature accuracy.

Cooling of the Test Space

The cooling of the test space is handled by a refrigeration unit. The refrigeration circuit consists of a finned tube evaporator located in the recirculation mixing chamber of the test space, a refrigeration machine, the corresponding condenser, and other high-quality, field-tested components. The easily accessible compressor is mounted on vibration-damping springs and operates quietly and largely free of vibrations.
The heat exchanger has an optimal efficiency. The entire refrigeration circuit is characterized by reliability, high operational safety, and longevity.

The Cooling Process

The heat energy from the test space is absorbed by the evaporator and dissipated by the air- or water-cooled condenser.

Heating of the Test Space

Heating is done directly using electric resistance heaters made of stainless steel, which are continuously controlled, allowing for sensitive temperature control.

Climate Control

Temperature Control

The temperature control of the test space is achieved in the climate range through the compression and evaporator heat of the refrigeration machine. A portion of the refrigerant gas compressed by the refrigeration machine is taken off before the condenser and fed to the test space refrigerant evaporator via a solenoid valve. At the same time, the refrigerant condensed in the condenser is supplied to the evaporator through the injection valve.
The test space controls the solenoid valve in the refrigeration circuit. In the mixer, the hot gas is combined with the condensed refrigerant to subsequently flow into the evaporator of the test space as "mixed gas" with a defined temperature.

Humidification

The humidification of the test space air is done by a steam humidifier.
The temperature-controlled humidifier is a stainless steel container with an internal heating element that tempers the water bath. Fresh air is drawn over the water surface with the help of an external fan, which saturates it with moisture before being blown into the test space through a solenoid valve controlled by the humidity regulator.
The humidifier is continuously supplied with water via a distillate pumping unit.

Dehumidification

The dehumidification of the test space air occurs through condensation on the dry coil in the recirculation mixing chamber. A refrigeration machine is placed before the condensation heat exchanger.

Unit Frame

The unit frame is a stable welded construction and serves to accommodate the cooling and heating technical components as well as the electrical control cabinet.
The unit frame is an integral part of the chamber's outer housing.

Control and Regulation

The control elements and regulators of the system are designed in modular technology and mounted in a control cabinet.
The construction components of the control system are summarized on a control panel.
Climate program controller SE 502 with display showing function and fault indicators
Microcomputer-controlled regulator with integrated programmer.
The climate controller contains 4 control zones
Membrane keyboard with easily distinguishable functional blocks for simple handling of the climate program controller.
