Welding Machine CEMAS IR9 // WDM
Machine Structure
Welded machine frame made of steel tube profile, with welded and machined surfaces for the
attachment of the upper frame and table top.
The frame is painted in RAL 7035 color.
A hood for connection to a factory exhaust system up to 3,000 m3/h is provided.
Rectangular profile tubes are freely accessible for transport by forklift under the frame.
Maintenance doors on the sides for good accessibility for maintenance purposes.
The lighting in the machine room is switched on and off via the control panel.
Protective door at the front with electromechanical, vertical drive - opening 1,070 x 990 mm.
The control cabinet is integrated into the rear machine frame.
Heating Elements
Plate for heating element dimensions: 900 x 500 mm.
Mirror speed: 2,200 mm/sec.
Encoder in servomotor for mirror position control.
Heating Circuits
The temperature control for the heating mirrors consists of 2 heating circuits each for the upper and lower heating mirror in the
system. For temperature control, we use GEFRAN GFX4 modular power controllers, with an
MPI protocol for communication with the PLC control and control panel.
This allows all process parameters to be entered and managed via the control panel.
Module for controlling four temperature zones.
GFX4 communication via MPI protocol with the PLC.
Type-J temperature sensors can be directly connected to the GFX4 module for temperature control.
FX4 Modular 4-CHANNEL CONTROLLER with PID CONTROLLER
Upper Table
Dimensions of upper fixture: 900 x 500 mm.
Press speed: 650 mm/sec.
Maximum pressure-welding force: 10,000N, optionally expandable to 14,000N.
Encoder in servomotor for table position control.
Drive by a Siemens servomotor Model 1FK7, max. torque 36 Nm at 3,000 rpm.
All movements controlled by Siemens motor encoders with an accuracy of 0.01 mm.
Guidance with column.
Under Table
Dimensions of upper fixture: 900 x 500 mm.

Lowest loading level: 560mm.
Opening width lift table/head plate: 280-1495mm.
Technology
The machine control is via a PLC, manufacturer Siemens S7-CPU 1512SP-1PN.
The control panel manufacturer SIEMENS 9' IPC 277E with touch screen is space-saving, foldable and integrated into the right side wall.
The parameter settings for the welding process are password protected via the control panel.
Adjustable welding parameters; temperature, heating time, pressure/force, depth.
Venturi system for vacuum functions for individual upper and lower tools, also usable for holding the
parts in the upper fixture.
Automatic tool recognition via coding for up to 31 tools.
Cables of the heating element are covered in thermal protective insulation.
Up to 2 presence sensors managed via the control panel throughout the entire process.
Equipment for up to 2 clamps on the tool.
Analog connection between PLC and linear measuring system.
All pneumatic components manufactured by FESTO.
Standard color RAL7035
General Tool Description
Designed as a simple tool for joining with heating element for the WDM NON SERVICE UNIT.
The tool is designed for a heating element welding machine type CEMAS HP9.
The tool is manufactured in a segmented aluminum base structure and fixtures, individually adjustable.
The tool design and manufacturing is carried out according to the approved CAD data.
In the upper and lower tools, vacuum suckers are provided to hold the components in position during the joining process.
The above-mentioned machine is a STANDARD MACHINE and belongs to the series of machines designed and built by Cemas Eletíra s.r.l. for welding thermoplastics using HEATING ELEMENT or INFRARED WELDING TECHNOLOGY.
HEATING ELEMENT WELDING TECHNOLOGY:
The HEATING ELEMENT WELDING TECHNOLOGY consists of directly heating the parts to be welded
by approaching/contacting the MIRROR group.
The heat generated by the electrical resistors built into the heating elements is transferred through the interposition
of the mirror unit between the upper and lower workpieces to the surface profiles of the parts to be welded (heating phase).
It is important to correctly calculate the availability and the amount of resistors to ensure that the uniformly distributed temperature set at the heating elements is reached.
The generated thermal energy is converted and then transferred to the material by conduction or convection.
Depending on the material used in the construction of the heating elements, a surface treatment may be required or a non-stick material must be applied so that the plastic material to be welded does not stick to the knives during welding.
INFRARED Welding Technology
The INFRARED welding technology is based on the principle of RADIATION, i.e., the transfer of electromagnetic thermal energy (infrared) through waves.
This type of heating occurs without direct contact between the heating unit and the parts to be welded.
The infrared energy moves in a straight line (similar to light) and produces thermal energy only after absorption.
A clearly defined distance between the overheating element and the welding surface minimizes the risk of contamination.
In this way, contamination by plastic particles is prevented.
After the heating phase (hot knife or infrared), the mirror unit returns to the rest position and the heated profiles are brought into contact with each other by closing the moving surfaces (cooling phase).
The fusion between the parts ensures that the desired weld is achieved. It is important that the contact surfaces are designed to allow a weld seam to form. In both welding technologies, each heating element is divided into "welding zones".
These machines are designed to manage up to 16 zones, i.e., when welding on an element with two figures (e.g., right and left light), 4 figures, 4 heating elements, and 4 zones on each heating element result (for zone management see the attached "Description of the machine cycle").
The ideal parameters for a compliant welding process are established through accurate assessment of the surfaces and the properties of the welding pieces.
For the first test welds, the theoretical parameters are preset, while during the final acceptance, when the last samples are performed with the final parts, the optimal parameters are established.
These are then entered and saved on the control panel.
