BIA Turnkey Test Systems


Here we offer you an elastomer testing system.
The testing system is used for the determination and analysis
- of bearing characteristic curves and values at vehicle operating points
- of bearing characteristic curves and values at operating points under temperature specification
- of bearing behavior under operational load (settling behavior, change in characteristic curves)
- of functional noises at operating points
for elastomer bearings in the chassis and drive area.
The test specimen is secured between a fixed upper plate and a movable lower plate.
The lower movable plate is driven by a hydraulic hexapod. The fixed platform
is connected to the test stand structure via a 6-axis force sensor. A linear actuator
allows adjustment of the distance between the two plates to accommodate different test specimens
and fixtures.

Hydraulic Hexapod
The hydraulic hexapod consists of 6 hydraulically supported hydraulic cylinders.
The cylinders have a cross-section of 12.53 cm².
Each cylinder has 2 parallel servo valves rated at 38 l/min.
The six cylinders drive the movable plate via six connecting rods.
At their base, the connecting rods have a hydraulic ball joint. The oil pressure for this hydrostatic support comes directly from the cylinder.
Linear Actuator
The distance between the upper and lower plates can be adjusted using a linear actuator.
This actuator consists of an electric motor, a gearbox, and a screw-nut system.
Displacement Sensors
Hydraulic Actuator
The hydraulic cylinders are equipped with magnetostrictive displacement sensors with the following specifications:
Resolution: 0.0015%
Linearity: <±0.01% F.S.
Repeatability: <±0.001% F.S.
Hysteresis: <4 μm
Update time: 0.5 ms
Linear Actuator
The linear actuator is equipped with an absolute encoder. This is mounted on the input shaft of the gearbox.
Cable Sensors
To optimize deformation measurements on the test specimen, we have implemented a redundant measurement system close to the specimen.
This system consists of a hexapod made of cable sensors, which measures the displacements and orientations of the table.
This system is only used at low frequencies.
To avoid dynamic effects, the sensors were mounted on the fixed plate.
A pulley orients the cables to the ball joints attached to the movable plate.
Acceleration Sensors
The system is equipped with acceleration sensors. These are used for correction at higher frequencies.
Each platform has 6 sensors mounted as shown in Figure 7.
Force/Moment Sensor
The fixed platform is mounted on a 6-axis force sensor with the following specifications:
Fx: 25 kN
Fy: 25 kN
Fz: 50 kN
Mx: 3750 Nm
My: 3750 Nm
Mz: 3000 Nm
Control
Figure 10 shows a simplified principle sketch of the test stand. The main reference systems for control are defined as follows:
RS: Reference system fixed side of the test specimen,
RS’: Reference system movable side of the test specimen,
RFP: Reference system fixed platform,
RMP: Reference system movable platform,
RF: Reference system 6-axis force sensor,
RB: Global reference system (corresponds to nominal position of the movable platform).
The hybrid control (force – displacement) refers to the center of the reference system Rs.
The movement is defined by the position and orientation of RS’ relative to RS  (Fig.11).
Forces and moments at S‘ are applied to S and expressed in Rs. The different parameters are:
Tx, Ty, Tz: 3 displacements,
Qx, Qy, Qz: 3 rotations around RS-axis,
Fx, Fy, Fz: 3 forces,
Mx, My, Mz: 3 moments.
