Operating principle:
The Opal 460 is a fully hydraulic, water-cooled hot mounting press for embedding specimen samples.
In hot embedding, the specimen is embedded in a mounting press under temperature and pressure using a plastic granulate.
Advantages of the process include the high hardness of the embedding materials (e.g., glass fiber reinforced) and good freedom from voids.
Hot mounting materials are available based on epoxy resin, acrylic resin, phenolic resin, and graphite resin.

Main application area:

Encapsulation of samples for better sample preparation for further metallographic examinations.
